Exercise gives muscles elasticity and strength, tones the body and normalizes metabolism, but after attending a workout, whether you are a professional or an amateur, the tissues of the body gradually accumulate metabolic products and a person may experience discomfort and pain in the soft tissues. There are several types of massage for athletes to make your workouts more effective and your body able to recover quickly within 2 main categories – preparatory and restorative. We need a preparatory massage, as the name implies, in order to adjust our tissues and organs to the load before competition or training. This is a short, shallow and fast-paced, tonic massage. It warms tissues well, improves blood circulation and prevents injury, whereas restorative is performed slowly, deeply and for longer. Its purpose is to relax muscles, tendons and fascia. It also removes metabolic products, enables tissues to recover and balances muscle belts. In general, massage improves tissue oxygen saturation, improves the conduction of nerve processes in muscles, reduces or stops the process of fibrosis in microtrauma, relieves pain, and improves the performance of athletes.
